Thomas S. Allen has over 35 years in the trust and estate industry. He started as a personal trust business development officer with Central National Bank of Cleveland in 1979. For more than 30 years, he held numerous positions within the trust department of the bank and its corporate successors, culminating with the position of national managing director and chief fiduciary officer of the Ultra Affluent Wealth Management Group. In this capacity, he led a 30-member organization with responsibility for the portfolio management, credit and fiduciary functions of the line of business. He oversaw the strategic growth of the ultra affluent segment and was a member of the senior management team for Key Private Bank.
Upon retiring from Key Bank in 2011, he served for two years as senior managing director and shareholder in the private client practice of Hartland & Co. Investment Consultants. He advised large, multi-generational families on philanthropic planning, income tax planning, family governance and wealth disposition. He continues to advise several families and is a director for several family-owned, for-profit corporations.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Duke University and his Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He is a member of the Cleveland Salvation Army advisory board and its capital campaign cabinet. He also is director and chair of the investment committee for The First Presbyterian Society of The Old Stone Church in Cleveland. Over the years he has supported numerous other charitable and cultural institutions in Northeast Ohio, as co-chair of the Humanitarian Society of The United Way of Greater Cleveland, trustee of Opera Cleveland and Apollo’s Fire, and a member of the estate planning advisory boards of the Cleveland museum of Art, Cleveland Orchestra, Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals of Cleveland. He lives in Bratenahl with his wife, Susan. They have two adult children.
